In The Community
The Tennessee Titans are proud to be a philanthropic leader in the community and it's our goal to make a difference in the lives of our fans. We have several special events, programs and player appearances that we make throughout the year that enrich the lives of others.
Player Appearances
Our players are actively involved in the community through our team-related events and appearances, as well as their own foundations or community service projects that they have personally scheduled. While their free time is limited, making a difference in the lives of others is important to our players. (Note: We are not currently accepting additional requests for appearances during the regular season).
Titan Tuesdays
Tuesday is traditionally the only day off for NFL players during the season, but we use the day to make special appearances throughout the community, including local schools and hospitals.
Hospital Visits:
Each Tuesday during the fall, Titans players and staff are visiting patients at St. Thomas Hospital and Baptist Hospital to spread goodwill and cheer. We work with our partner hospitals on these visits and the schedule has already been set for the 2011 season.
Metro Middle School Visits:
Each Tuesday during the fall, the Titans visit Metro Nashville middle schools. During an assembly, the player shares his personal story and the importance of making good choices, staying focused, making homework a priority before outside activities, staying in school, and listening to their parents & teachers. The player also stress the importance of leading an active lifestyle which includes a healthy diet that comprises low-fat, high fiber foods, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. The visiting Titan also encourages the students to accept the Play 60 challenge by getting at least 60 minutes of active play per day. After the assembly, select students were chosen by the school for their leadership, grades and behavior to be PLAY 60 Ambassadors and spend additional time with the player for a meet and greet opportunity.
Titans Hometown Huddle
While our players are out in the community every Tuesday, the NFL and United Way went further in 1999 by establishing an NFL Hometown Huddle. On this annual "Super Tuesday" each NFL team, its players, coaches and executives band together to participate in a community project or event. The NFL's partner for over 30 years, United Way provides links to many local volunteer opportunities at www.jointheteam.com.
Part of United Way's mission is to bring communities together to focus on the most important human needs building partnerships, forging consensus and leveraging resources to make a measurable difference. The Titans have hosted an annual fun day of bowling, games and pizza as well as a Thanksgiving dinner for youth from various area non-profit organizations as part of the Hometown Huddle event.
Titans Caravan: Held Annually each Spring The Tennessee Titans, along with the incredible support of our partners at Titans Radio, conduct an annual Caravan that travels throughout Tennessee, southern Kentucky and northern Alabama. We have visited nearly 400 cities in five states and made over 450 total stops. We've traveled nearly 35,000 total miles and taken thousands of pictures. Our players have signed tens of thousands of autographs and shaken approximately 100,000 hands at no cost to our fans. Why? Because we absolutely love our fans! That's the story of the long history of the Tennessee Titans Caravan. It's about bringing the Tennessee Titans out to the fans of the Mid-South to say thank you for your support! No other team in professional sports undertakes a project of this size and magnitude. Not one.
Many of the Titans Caravan visits are public stops at shopping malls, businesses, town squares and community centers where people can meet and greet the Titans player(s) and members of the Titans Radio broadcast team. Schools are visited with the Titans presenting a program entitled Making Good Choices designed for those in elementary school. We also visit with soldiers and their families at Fort Campbell, KY, home of the 101st Airborne Division, who have been annual stop of the Titans Caravan.
Titans Community Quarterback Award Most neighborhoods have volunteers who are passionate about making their community a better place. To celebrate these local heroes, the NFL created a Community Quarterback Award, a recognition program that annually donates nearly $1 million to organizations served by outstanding volunteers in NFL cities.
Funded by The Tennessee Titans Foundation, the Titans Community Quarterback Award honors community volunteers who demonstrate leadership and dedication to bettering their hometowns. During the season, the Titans Community Quarterback Award will be administered through this web site to determine our local finalists and winner. Each of the 32 teams will submit their local winner to go on to compete in the national Community Quarterback Award program where they have awarded nearly $1 million in the names of the winners to the nonprofit organizations that they serve.
