Biography

PRO: Kevin Matthews joined the Titans as a rookie free agent on April 30, 2010.  The 6-foot-3-inch, 302-pounder was on the active roster for his entire second season but did not see action in any games in 2011.  Matthews spent the first 14 weeks of his rookie campaign on the team’s practice squad before being signed to the team’s active roster on Dec. 15, 2010.  Matthews appeared in three contests with one start in 2010.  He will compete for playing time at center.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• As a rookie in 2010, appeared in three games and started the season finale at center.  He entered camp as an undrafted free agent and spent the first 14 weeks of the season on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on Dec. 15, 2010.

TITANS TIDBITS: 
• Matthews’ family has a storied history in the NFL.  His father and current position coach, Bruce, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 after an illustrious 19-year career with the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans.  His uncle, Clay Matthews, Jr., was a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker who played 19 seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons (1978-96).  His cousin, Clay Matthews III, currently plays outside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers.  Another cousin, Casey Matthews, was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
• Two of Matthews’ brothers play on the offensive line at Texas A&M.  Jake played in nine games with six starts at right tackle as a true freshman at Texas A&M in 2010 and was selected All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore.  Mike will be the third member of the family to play for the Aggies as a freshman in 2012.

• A native of Houston, Texas, Matthews was originally signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent on April 30, 2010.
• Waived on Sept. 4, 2010 and signed to the Titans’ practice squad on Sept. 5, 2010.
• Signed to the Titans’ active roster from the team’s practice squad on Dec. 15, 2010.

COLLEGE:
• Played in 34 career games with 25 starts during his four-year stay at Texas A&M.  Started the final 25 games at center to end his career.
• As a senior (2009), named honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the league’s head coaches.  Was part of a revamped offensive front that helped the team to an average of 184.2 rushing yards per game and a total output of 465.8 yards per contest.
• Member of the 2009 “Watch List” for the Rimington Trophy, which is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate center.
• As a junior (2008), started all 12 games at center while providing valuable leadership to the young unit and helping clear holes for an offense that averaged 340.9 yards of total offense per game.
• As a sophomore (2007), served as a reliable backup at center and saw action in five games.
• As a redshirt freshman (2006), saw action in four games as backup at center after redshirting in 2005.
• Majored in university studies with a concentration in business and minors in sport management and communications at Texas A&M.

• Married to Amanda and the couple has a son, Weston Bruce Matthews.  They split time between Nashville and Houston, Texas.  
• Attended Elkins (Sugar Land, Texas) High School and was named to the 2005 All-Greater Houston football team.
• Named first team All-District as a junior and senior.
• Also member of the track team and threw the shot put.
• Has six siblings, Steven, Marilyn, Jake, Mike, Luke and Gwen.
