    The NFL will celebrate its brightest stars of today and tomorrow with new Pro Bowl week festivities in 2017 in Orlando.

    Culminating with the 2017 Pro Bowl game at Camping World Stadium on Sunday, January 29 and televised live at 7 PM CT on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, Pro Bowl week will celebrate all levels of football -- from youth to high school to the NFL's best.

    The 2017 Pro Bowl will feature a return to the traditional AFC vs. NFC game format following three years using a revised, "unconferenced" format. The NFL's best will once again be in the spotlight as 88 players -- 44 from the AFC and 44 from the NFC -- are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches.

Dr. Thomas Byrd
Team Physician

Biography

Dr. Thomas Byrd first served as team physician for the Tennessee Oilers in 1997 and 1998, and resumed these duties with the Titans in 2003. He has been active in the NFL Physicians Society, sitting on an advisory committee for hip disorders. Outside of football, Dr. Byrd has served as a team physician for the United States Olympic Team and is a Past President of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA). He is a consulting orthopaedic surgeon for numerous professional sports franchises within the NFL as well as NHL, NBA, WNBA, and MLB; in addition to serving on the Medical Advisory Board for the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).

Dr. Byrd honed his sports medicine and arthroscopy skills under the tutelage of his mentor, Dr. James Andrews. He subsequently used these principles to pioneer the field of arthroscopic surgery of the hip. He devised the technique that is used worldwide for this procedure, and developed the instruments that are most commonly used. He has authored three textbooks, edited numerous other textbooks and journals, and has published over a 100 scientific papers, technical and review articles, and book chapters. His referral base of patients is international, and he is visited by orthopaedic surgeons from all corners of the globe. He travels worldwide as a visiting surgeon and invited professor in addition to lecturing at national and international meetings. He is active in clinical research through the Nashville Sports Medicine Foundation.

A native Nashvillian, Dr. Byrd is the third generation of physicians in his family to serve the Nashville community. He and his wife, Donna, have two grown daughters, Ellen and Allison, who along with son-in-law, Scott Freeman, have added two grandchildren, Thomas and Eloise.
